Permanent Resident Visas – Fees

Family Class Applicants

  • Sponsorship application (per application) – $75
  • Principal applicant – $475
  • Principal applicant, if less than 22 years of age and not a spouse or common-law partner (including a dependent child of the sponsor, a child to be adopted and an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild) - $75
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner – $550
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner – $150

Note: The fees can be paid when the sponsor files the sponsorship application if you are applying under the Family Class.

Investor, Entrepreneur or Self-employed Persons Class Applicants

  • Principal applicant – $1050
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner – $550
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner – $150

Other classes of applicants

Economic Classes

Federal Skilled Workers, Quebec Skilled Workers, Canadian Experience Class, and Provincial Nominees

  • Principal applicant – $550
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner - $550
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner – $150

Visitor visas (temporary resident visas) – Fees

  • Multiple entry - $100
  • Single entry – $100
  • Visitor visa – maximum fee for family - $500
  • Transit Visa (for less than 48 hours in Canada) – Free
  • Extension of Authorization to stay in Canada as a visitor (temporary resident) - $100

Note: To be eligible to pay the maximum fee of $500, family members must all apply at the same time and same place.

Work Permits – Fees

  • Work permit - $155
  • Work permit – maximum fee for group of three or more performing artists and their staff. (See note below) - $465

Note: To be eligible for the maximum fee, a group of three or more performing artists and their staff must apply at the same time and same place. However, performing artists and their staff who also need a visa (temporary resident visa) still need to pay the appropriate fee for each individual. The maximum visa fee applies only to families.

Spouse or Common-law Partner in Canada Class – Fees

Humanitarian and Compassionate Requests

A foreign national, who is inadmissible or does not meet requirements of the Act or Regulations, may submit a written request for consideration on humanitarian and compassionate grounds or public policy considerations. This must accompany an application for permanent residence.

  • Principal applicant – $550
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older, or is less than 22 years of age and is a spouse or common-law partner - $550
  • A family member of the principal applicant who is less than 22 years of age and is not a spouse or common-law partner - $150

Permit Holders Class – Fees

  • Applicant - $325

The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration may grant permanent resident status to an inadmissible foreign national based on humanitarian and compassionate or public policy grounds.

Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF)

Getting your permanent resident status – Fees

  • Getting your permanent resident status - $490

Principal applicants (with some exceptions) and spouses and common-law partners coming with them to Canada must pay this fee. Applicants must pay this fee before CIC issues the permanent resident visa or before the applicant becomes a permanent resident in Canada.

These people do not have to pay this fee:

  • dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted, or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild; and
  • protected persons, including Convention refugees.

Restoration of Temporary Resident Status – Fees

Permanent Resident Cards – Fees

Permanent residents outside Canada who do not have a Permanent Resident Card or an Immigration Record of Landing can apply for a travel document so that they may return to Canada.

  • Application processing fee - $50
  • Renewal or replacement of lost, damaged or stolen card - $50

Verification of status or replacement of an immigration document – Fees

  • Application processing fee - $30

Application for a travel document – Fees

  • Application processing fee - $50

Determination of rehabilitation – Fees

  • Application processing fee, if inadmissible on the grounds of criminality - $200
  • Application processing fee, if inadmissible on the grounds of serious criminality - $200+$800

Authorization to return to Canada – Fees

  • Application processing fee – $400

Repayment of removal expenses – Fees

  • To the U.S.A. and St. Pierre and Miquelon – $750
  • To any other country - $1500
